A potential fire hazard led Schneider Electric to issue a voluntary recall on APC 7 and 8 Series SurgeArrest surge protectors (personal, professional, performance, and network models) manufactured before 2003 and sold in the U.S.
Under frequent, abnormal building wiring and electrical conditions, these products have the potential to overheat, smoke, and melt, thereby posing a fire hazard. The hazard has been reported in <.01% of units sold and included reports of property damage, mostly involving damaged nylon carpeting.
Use of any of the recalled products should cease immediately. To determine if you have a recalled product and to process a claim for a free replacement, visit recall.apc.com or call 888-437-4007 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
