Seattle City Light celebrated the launch of its LED streetlight project in July with the first installations in the city's Ballard neighborhood. City Light will install 5,000 LED streetlights in residential neighborhoods this year and a total of 40,000 over the next five years. The utility also started pilot projects to test LED streetlights on arterial roads. With lower energy and maintenance costs, City Light expects the LED streetlights to save $294,000 in the first year and $2.4 million per year once all 40,000 have been installed.
