Home Star Bill Introduced in Senate

The Home Star program moved closer to law on March 26 when it was formally introduced to the U.S. Senate as the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010. The bipartisan bill will now move to the Finance committee for mark-up and consideration.  At stake is $6 billion in federal funds to create an estimated 168,000 jobs and, at the same time, retrofit houses with energy-saving insulation, doors, windows, hot water heaters, roofing and HVAC systems. Consumers will receive rebates at the point of installation from contractors, who will then be reimbursed by the federal government. SB 3170 also contains funding for states to help consumers fund retrofit projects.  3/31 HCN
