SUMMIT UTILIZES EDI TO DRIVE DOWN COSTS AND INCREASE EFFICIENCY
A critical element to a successful partnership is the integration of business systems as well as the use of advanced technologies to mutually drive down costs and increase efficiency. One way that Summit has maximized our relationship with hundreds of Customers and Vendor Partners is through the use of electronic data interchange (EDI).
EDI is a process of transmitting information electronically. The entire process should be automated - there should be no manual or human intervention. By eliminating the human involvement in an otherwise manual process, errors are eliminated and people are relieved of individuals are freed up for more productive and rewarding work.
Summit was an early adopter of EDI. We have been fully capable of sending and receiving all recognized EDI transaction sets since the very early 1990s. Typical transactions include purchase orders, purchase order acknowledgement, purchase order change, product activity, advance ship notice, shipment and billing notice, receipt advice, invoicing and more.
We believe that the closer the relationship between two organizations, the faster and more efficiently they can conduct business. Electronic data interchange is an excellent example of how Summit and many of our key Customers have established closer relationships to drive down costs while increasing accuracy and productivity. Electronic data interchange is a true win/win situation for Summit and our Customers.
