Modicon® Atrium™ Slot PLC
"The best of both worlds"

The Modicon® Atrium™ slot PLC features the same reliability and consistency of a PLC with the cost and integration advantages of PC-based control. This PC-based card slips into most PCs, creating a complete automation solution.

This is ideal for OEMs looking for an alternative to “hard” end-user specifications that cause expensive re-programming for different automation systems for each project. If the host PC crashes, is rebooted or even loses power, the Atrium PLC will keep the process running without interruption – something that the traditional “soft” PC-based control solutions only dream about.

The Atrium PLC can communicate with I/O platforms using several fieldbus standards, including Modbus Plus™, Ethernet, Interbus, Profibus and CANOpen. It is programmed with Unity Pro™ software and can be connected to remote racks through a BUSX interface. It supports Schneider Electric’s Transparent Ready™ architectures, and can even utilize the Ethernet port that is built into the host PC, saving hundreds in hardware costs.

Summit Automation Customer Case Study

Modicon Continues On…

Like you, we’ve heard the rumors that Modicon PLCs were no longer going to be produced, supported, etc. This couldn’t be further from the truth. We would like to quote from Schneider directly regarding this matter:

"Many questions have arisen regarding the future of the MODICON® Brand as a part of Schneider Electric’s Telemecanique global promotion. We would like to assure you that Schneider Electric will continue to manufacture MODICON Products as you have known them for years. The TELEMECANIQUE brand decision will have no effect on the product names that are familiar to you. For example, we will continue to use the MODICON product designation for PLCs like QUANTUM®, MOMENTUM® and PREMIUM®, just as ALTIVAR® will remain the product name for AC drives and ALTISTART® soft starts. Catalog numbers and other product materials will also stay the same, so there should be no impact on machine design specifications and other customer requirements.

This decision does mean, however, that new products will no longer be dual-branded. All automation and control products will carry the TELEMECANIQUE brand along with a product name or designation."
