SUMMIT CARES
Summit Electric Supply has a long history of community involvement in every city where we have a Service Center and also on a national scale.
Summit is a longtime supporter of the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the United Way and many other organizations that offer assistance both on a large scale and to individual families in need.
Summit Associates routinely sponsor food and toy drives, often including our Customers and Vendors, who are always eager participants in the charity efforts. Our Associates also contribute innumerable volunteer hours.
Summit's spirit of giving is most apparent in times of crisis. When a forest fire burned into the city of Los Alamos, N.M., Summit delivery trucks were enlisted to bring fresh water and snacks to the firefighters, often coming close to the front line.
In the aftermath of the September 11 terror attacks, many Summit Associates at the individual Service Centers began taking contributions even before they were aware of the company's plans as a whole. A significant portion of Summit's sales for the rest of the year were earmarked for families of the victims, and checks were cut for both the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Later, Summit donated firefighter sculptures to several local firehouses, a sign of respect and appreciation.
In Albuquerque, home of the company's headquarters, Summit purchased patriotic billboards to show support for the United States during the initial and unprecedented time of national mourning.
Summit Associates strongly believe that it is our duty to support causes that give back to our community and to our country.
Here are just a few examples of Summit's involvement in our communities:
Homes for the poor in Juarez
Chas Thomas of the El Paso Service Center (right) accepts a plaque from Wesley Green, a representative of Casas Por Cristo, an organization devoted to building adequate shelter for destitute families in Juarez, Mexico. The plaque was given in thanks for Summit's 10 years of contributions to the group.
For more information about Casas Por Cristo, see their Web site at www.casasporcristo.org.
Toys for sick children
Summit Associates, Customers and Vendors have teamed up many times to help make Christmas a little more joyful for sick and injured children. Summit's toy drive collected goodies that were delivered to the American Red Cross and children's hospitals. In this picture, Jeremy Kilgore of the Albuquerque Service Center delivers a truckload of toys to the Carrie Tingley Hospital, which is devoted to the care of children and adolescents.
Safety on the road
Summit's delivery trucks are operated by some of the safest drivers on the road, and that's not just a happy coincidence. Like every other Summit Associate, delivery drivers must go through a rigorous hiring process designed to identify the "cream of the crop." Upon their hire, they learn about Summit's commitment to safety, Customer respect and excellence in everything we do. Still, there's one more hurdle to clear before new Associates can get behind the wheel: Every Summit driver will have his or her driving record pulled and inspected before being allowed to take to the streets in a Summit-labeled vehicle.
Our commitment is demonstrated through our Driver Safety Program, which recognizes the best drivers in our fleet based on incident-free days. In some cases, drivers have worn the Summit uniform for years without so much as a fender scratch or parking ticket.
Another part of the program is the toll-free telephone number affixed to the back of every Summit vehicle. The sticker encourages motorists to call and leave a message about the observed conduct of Summit's drivers.
The stickers are a recent addition to the Driver Safety Program, and Summit doesn't expect the telephone message line to get much use, but we're proud to apply the stickers and replace them when they get worn. Those stickers display to the world what we already know: Not only are we the most considerate, alert drivers on the road, we're willing to back it up with action. |
