JUST THE FACTS
Proper Name: Summit Electric Supply Co. Inc.
Age: Summit was founded in May 1977, and the first store opened in Albuquerque, N.M., at 3317 Girard Blvd. NE., on Aug. 15, 1977. Albuquerque remains the location of Summit's corporate headquarters, which have moved 2900 Stanford NE.
Founders:
- Victor Jury Sr.; retired from Summit in 1991; had been with a major electrical distributor for 28 years before retiring in 1976.
- David Meredith; retired from Summit in February 1999; had been a friend and co-worker of Jury Sr. for many years.
- Victor Jury Jr.; in his early 20s at the time of Summit's founding, he's the current President and Chief Executive Officer.
The industry: Summit is a wholesale distributor of industrial electrical equipment and supplies, and is one of an estimated 4,000 such businesses in the nation. Summit specializes in providing equipment, service and technical support to a wide range of companies and organizations, including residential, commercial and industrial electrical contractors, government, institutions, health care, petrochemical, mining and other organizations that use the material to maintain, repair or operate their facilities. Summit tailors its business toward the business-to-business customer, as opposed to individual homeowners and do-it-yourself hobbyists. Summit is a diverse entity offering various equipment and advanced services at 20 locations (Service Centers) across five states.
The product: Our warehouses are stocked to the ceiling with almost anything an electrical professional might need. A small sampling of what we offer includes motor controls, distribution equipment and protection, wire and cable, lighting, wiring devices, conduit and fittings, transformers, tools, instruments, data communications and automation products, and much more.
The services: Summit stocks large, local inventories that offer the most demanded materials from the most highly regarded manufacturers in addition to many harder-to-find product lines. Summit's Associates undergo continuous training a corporate commitment and are able to provide superior service in the areas of technical support and problem solving. Such proficiency also leads to accurate and timely deliveries, and the innovative use of technology, including online ordering, EDI capabilities, electronic invoicing and statement delivery, and more. Summit also offers the best and fastest counter service, and provides service guarantees to back it up.
National ranking: Each year, the respected industry magazine Electrical Wholesaling, based in Overland Park, Kan., publishes a list of the top electrical distributors in the nation based on total sales from the previous year. There are literally thousands of electrical distributors in the United States. Here is how Summit has fared since its debut on the charts in 1988:
